Junior League of Champlain Valley Receives $10,000 MassMutual Foundation Grant for Diaper Bank

Updated: Feb 19, 2021

COLCHESTER, VT – Junior League of Champlain Valley (JLCV) has received a $10,000 grant from the MassMutual Foundation as part of a national Community Service Award (CSA) program. JLCV is one of thirty-two organizations nationally to receive an award. The MassMutual Foundation made the grant as a tribute to the volunteer efforts of Rebecca Monty, a MassMutual agent and a managing partner of Professional Financial Associates in Colchester.

“We are stronger when we come together as a community, and our Community Service Awards program recognizes a group of MassMutual financial professionals who embody this spirit, working with members of their respective neighborhoods, towns and cities, helping nonprofits with which they are involved grow and thrive,” said Dennis Duquette, Head of MassMutual Community Responsibility and President of the MassMutual Foundation. “We are proud of the time and energy Rebecca dedicates to better her community and delighted to support the great work MassMutual financial professionals do with organizations across the country.”

The award was presented at the September JLCV membership meeting.

The JLCV Diaper Bank is Vermont’s first diaper bank and began distributing diapers to area food shelves from its South Burlington headquarters in Fall 2018. The Diaper Bank partners with The Chittenden Emergency Food Shelf and town food shelf programs in Williston, Richmond, Milton and Hinesburg to distribute close to 100,000 diapers annually.

“One in three US families struggle with diaper need,” said Nicole Breslend, President of JLCV. “This amazing grant will cover the cost of operating our diaper bank facility for several years, allowing our volunteers to focus on collecting and distributing diapers to Vermont families. We couldn’t be more thrilled and appreciative.”

Monty has been actively involved with JLCV for five years, currently serving as president-elect. She has dedicated countess hours of time and talent to help the organization grow and flourish.

“I am very pleased that my dedication to Junior League has been recognized by the MassMutual Foundation,” she said. “This grant will provide much-needed funding to continue supporting our communities.”
